According to Carmen Solomon-Fear in “Teenage Pregnancy Prevention: Statistics and Programs”, in 2010 over 600,000 teenagers between the ages of 15-19 were pregnant and over 89,000 had miscarriages. The other 150,000 teenagers had abortions and the end result was over 350,000 gave birth that year without miscarriages and abortions. Because high school students have sex between 9th and 12th grade, there were more pregnancies in 2013 (Solomon-Fears, 2015). The academic community believes that a reason why there is teenage pregnancy is because some grow up without a father (Solomon-Fears, 2015). The other commentators also agree that teenage pregnancy is extremely high because of social and economic problems. A child goes by what she hears and sees her parents do. If the mothers are having sex with different guys, the children might do the same thing. The same thing goes with the fathers. The impact from this perspective is that it lets the child think that this is normal behavior, which can lead to unwanted pregnancy. If a girl does not have a male figure in the household, chances are she will try to find attention from a guy who is not her father. Teenage pregnancy is high because of the parents’ lack of support and guidance, not just the father’s. For example, my niece lost her mother at fifteen years old and that caused her father to disappear.
