"Teen birth rates declined from 2013 to 2014 for all races and for Hispanics. Among 15- to 19-year-olds, teen birth rates decreased" (CDC para 4). The reason that I chose to writing about teenage pregnancy is because I think that shows like Teen Mom and 16 and pregnant prevent teens from wanting to have kids, it doesn 't necessarily stop then from having sexual contact but it teaches teens protection while having sex , because the moms have to struggle on the show is how the kids will struggle in real life.

" Roughly one in four girls will be pregnant at least once before age 20. And about one in five teen moms will have a second child during her teen years. Significant disparities also persist across racial and ethnic lines, geographic regions,

The Steady Decline of Teen Pregnancy Teen pregnancy, which is most commonly defined as adolescents from ages 15- 19, is not only a private trouble. Childbearing during the teen years not only have negative effects on the young parents but the children as well. Compared to ninety percent of women graduating high school by the age of twenty-two, only fifty percent of teen mothers receive their high school diploma by age twenty-two (NC Dept. of Health and Human Services 2015). These youth are more likely to rely heavily on public assistance and are more likely to be poor as adults, which may adversely affect their children’s education level and wage earnings (Guilford County Dept. of Public Health 2013).…

In the year of 2014, approximately 250,000 babies were born to mothers aged between 15-19 (CDC). The most important question posed now is, why are these teen pregnancy numbers so high? Is it because teenagers are uneducated in the risks of sexual activity? Is it because teenagers are too scared to confront their parents about going on birth control? The latter of the two seems to be more of a realistic reasoning.…

In the article, Centers for Disease and Control and Prevention, it states, “In 2013, a total of 273,105 babies were born to women aged between 15 through 19.” Many people believe that shows like “16 and Pregnant” promote teenage pregnancies, but I think the shows deters teenage girls from becoming pregnant. In “16 and Pregnant” many mothers struggle through stress, go through breakups, and go through being isolated. In this specific show, many mothers show that stress is built during being pregnant because most of them are still attending school; Consequently, they have to manage their time better and try to get ahead before they give birth.…

Teen pregnancy is an area of focus for many public health professionals due to the public health and economic challenges that oppress the mother and child. Poor health outcomes and lower educational and economic achievements as a result of adolescent parenting (Svoboda, Shaw, Barth & Bright, 2012) have triggered the establishment of prevention programs aimed at lowering teen pregnancy rates. As a result of successful prevention strategies and increased contraceptive use, teen pregnancy birth rates for women between the ages of 15 to 19 years old has decreased to a historic low in the United States’ general adolescent population (Hamilton & Ventura, 2012). However, teen pregnancy rate in the U.S. is still one of highest amoung industrialized…

The teens pregnancy is not a new occurrence in our society, however, the perception of American society on this topic changed in the last century. Until late 1800’s, main concern about pregnant teen was to be married before baby was born and most of states codes allowed girls as young as 12 to do so (Teen Pregnancy, 2008). However, due to living condition, poor diet and diseases, most of teen girls did not reach physical maturity until late teens which limited number of early pregnancies. In 1900’s, the changes in law resulted in decreased rate of early marriage and pregnancy, until 1940s to 1960s when rate of teens pregnancy drastically increased (to about 70-80 births per 1000). In 1970s to 1990s, with girls reaching puberty in an younger age and increased numbers of people postponing marriage (due to increasing divorce rate, reliable contraceptive methods, seeking education) more single females become mothers.…

Babies born to teenage mothers are more likely to be a preemie (in other words) be born before 40 weeks of (usual/ commonly and regular/ healthy) pregnancy term. Pre-term babies are easily able to be harmed or influenced by different medical conditions, such as apnoea spells (breathing sickness/problem due to immature brain). More than that, the rate of infant deaths is higher among babies born to teenage mothers compared with those born to adult mothers. Long-lasting medical problems and low birth weight are other likely problems in babies born to a teenage mother. Because of questions about the future and lack of support during pregnancy, teens may take up unhealthy habits, such as drinking and smoking.…

Many sexually active teens are not fully educated on the dangers of unprotected sex. Instead, they are told that abstinence is the only option for teens. This method of sexual education leads to more teen pregnancy over comprehensive sexual education. When comparing the abstinence only versus comprehensive sex education, comprehensive sex education was associated with a 50% lower teen pregnancy risk (“National”). In Illinois alone, 22,660 teenage women between the ages of fifteen and nineteen were pregnant in the year 2011.…

In an effort to pinpoint risks attributed with teens being more likely to become pregnant, there has since been a long standing debate surrounding teenage childbearing and its relationship to poverty, poor education, unstable jobs, unsuccessful marriages, etc. Ever since the issue of teenage childbearing has come to the forefront, the argument that is presented time after time is that women who become teenage mothers are more at risk to suffer from, “Poor educational attainment and weak attachment to the labor force, low earning, and reliance on public assistance, marital instability and single parenthood, additional births, large family size, and poor health outcomes during and after pregnancy.” (Furstenberg, 2003) In an additional article titled, Education and Labor Market Consequences of teenage Childbearing written by Jason M. Fletcher and Barbara Wolfe, it was said that, “We find evidence that teenage childbearing likely reduces the probability of receiving a high school diploma by 5 to 10 percentage points, reduced annual income as a young adult by $1,000 to $2,400, and may increase the probability of receiving cash assistance and decrease years of schooling” (Fletcher & Wolfe, 2007) In addition to the teenage mothers having a greater chance of suffering difficulties throughout life, people have also stated that the children of the teenage mothers begin their life in a bad position.…
