As a freshman in high school, I remember overhearing a classmate confessing to her friend that she was pregnant. My pregnant classmate continued to express how disappointed she was in herself to her friend. The friend of my pregnant classmate was consoling her and convincing her everything would be fine. Her friend mentioned, “This thing happens all the time. You could even be on T.V. for it.”. She was referring to the television shows 16 & Pregnant and Teen Mom when mentioning fame. I thought nothing of the friend’s reference until today. Her friend is correct. You can gain fame for being a pregnant teen. But, is fame for being pregnant at sixteen what MTV producers want to convey to young audiences? 16 & Pregnant and Teen Mom promotes awareness

By displaying scenes of the teen moms struggling with life issues the producer hopes to let the young audience know that a baby crying late at night is not the only problem teenage mothers are confronted with. The two television shows also captures scenes of how teenage mothers must be ready to make sacrifices. Some teen moms become high school dropouts or will not enter college as a sacrifice to take care of their newborn. A few teen moms from the cast choose to sacrifice and place their newborn up for adoption so they could continue their teenage lifestyle. Teenagers have unrealistic views of pregnancies and sex.
