Teenage girls commonly misinterpret romance. Contemporary teenagers’ invest their hearts into finding Prince Charming because the media manipulates them to do so. Since the media sets these false expectations, it is nearly impossible for teenagers to find healthy relationships. Teenagers’ have to face enormous difficulties everyday; whether it is has to do with family, friends, school, or romance, the media has expanded the list of complications. Many media sources cause false expectations of love. Movies and books have been some of the main sources of these unrealistic prospects. Statistics prove that the fairy tale movies, television shows, and books that teens adore can be not only dangerous, but also lethal. Although current teenagers fall victim to the romantic media propaganda, future teenagers do not have to face the same heartbreak. False expectations can lead to disorders, failed relationships, and suicide. All of these tragic circumstances can happen just from the impractical story lines portrayed in the media. Parents must pressure media outlets to act more responsibly and consider the effects of the product they sell to teenagers. The unrealistic picture of romance can be as lethal as a fatal disease, because the mistaken views of relationships follow teens into the future and are passed along from generation to generation. Schools must step up and teach teens to understand the complexity of relationships and how reality must not recreate fiction. By preparing teenagers for the right of passage, society will guarantee them a realistic, honest, and optimistic future, free of Hollywood hype and romantic
