“Just take one drink” and “you’ll have more fun once you start drinking” are some phrases that teens are influenced by in today’s society. All teenagers would love to say that they have not been influenced by peer pressure, but most of the time a teenagers first drink occurs due to peer pressure. Teenagers see and hear about alcohol while watching tv, listening to much, and just hanging out with friends. The idea of drinking these days is to get drunk so you’ll be someone else. Be more outgoing and more confident with yourself so maybe you’ll talk to that person or actually interact in a group. Having a drink used to be something you did to relax after a long day of work or alcohol was used as an award for doing something you are proud of.

Teenagers need to take a second before they do engage in the event that leads to them becoming intoxicated and think about the consequences. Being a teenager and trying to find the time in the moment to sit back and think about what could happen can be extremely difficult. The consequences that follow drinking alcohol are a lot larger than just your parents finding out and being grounded until graduate high school. Once you reach the point of not being able to control your body functions and not making your own decisions you have reached a major level of vulnerability. Rape is always a hard topic to talk about but rape happens. Most all rape stories include the phrase “alcohol was involved”. Don’t get me wrong there is no excuse for rape but once you are intoxicated and no longer to defend yourself the idea of being raped becomes 1000 times easier.
