Alcohol use is continually an ongoing concern in American society. Recently, sizable declines in adolescent alcohol use have been recorded. The percentage of American 8th graders who reported consuming alcohol in the past 30 days fell from 26%-11% from 1996-2012. For 10th graders, alcohol consumption within the past 30 days fell from 39%-28% from 2001-2012. Among high school seniors, the use of alcohol fell from 72%-41.5% between 1980 and 2012 (Santrock, 2013). Binge drinking is also a concern among adolescence. It has been noted that alcohol is the most commonly used and abused drug among youth in America, more than tobacco and illicit drugs. Among youth, alcohol is responsible for 4,300 annual deaths. Although underage drinking is illegal, persons aged12-20 years drink roughly 11% of all alcohol consumed in the United States (CDC, 2014). On average adolescents consume more drinks on occasion than adults, and more than 90% of consumed drinks is done so in the form of binge drinking. In 2010, there were roughly 189,000 emergency room visits by adolescents under the age of 21 linked to alcohol related incidents (CDC, 2014). In 2013, the Youth Risk Behavior Survey recorded the drinking levels of high school students during the past 30 days. The results found that, 35% drank some amount of alcohol, 21% have binge drank, 10% drove after consuming alcohol, and 22% rode with a driver who had been drinking alcohol
