Alex is a teen that disagreed with e-waste. If you are not familiar with what e-waste is it is the disposal of electronics such as computers etc. Throwing these kinds of things are not good for the environment many ways.Electronic waste makes up 70% of the overall toxic waste. It's not good for it due to the heavy medal that no matter what way that you try to get rid of it , it always gets into the environment some how. So Alex Lin realized this and he wanted to make a difference. He got a few of his friends together and he started to re-refurbish computers . WIN was the first e-recycling drive in Alexs hometown of Westerly,Rhode island. The way he did this is he wanted to get donations of computers that were broken from people that didn't need them anymore. Him and his friends started collecting these and he got about 20,000 pounds of electronics in one day and he started to fix them. After he fixed them he wanted to give them to schools that could use them when they were fixed. When he started to do this he wanted to put a stop to e-waste all together, so he went to the government for help and started to work with lawmakers to try and get e-waste illegal. This was back in 2005 that he tried to get the law passed. Unfortunately, they denied the bill. “We were all disappointed, after all the hard work that we did they didn't listen to us”. Says Brody who was a part of the crew. Even though they may have denied the bill they didn't stop trying. They worked for another year and then went back to the government and tried again , and this time it worked. They passed the law in 2006. As you can see not everyone is going to agree with what you want just like the government disagreed with what Alex wanted but even though that they denied it the first time they fought back and they finally convinced them to pass
