Teen Bagnacy: The Pros And Downfalls Of Teen Pregnancy

Improved Essays
What is teen pregnancy? Teen pregnancy is when a female under the age of twenty becomes pregnant. Becoming pregnant at this age can be due to choices made on one’s own or by force. I believe that teen pregnancy can have its ups and downfalls. It can either benefit teenagers that are experiencing pregnancy or it could cause harm; whether it is physical, mental, or emotional. The lives of the teens could be dramatically affected; not only their lives but the lives of the people involved, such as the immediate family. Depending on the decisions the young mother makes to keep her baby or not, it could help bring families closer. The United States has the highest teenage birthrate compared to other countries. “In 2013, a total of 273,105 babies …show more content…
If the female decides to keep the baby and stay in school, then she might have to battle with other students opinions. Although their opinions do not matter it could get to her head causing stress and low self-esteem. Stress is not good for the baby because it could cause a premature labor to take place. Also, I believe the biggest reason why some teenagers decide to not keep the baby is because they are not financially stable. Babies are very expensive but there is such a thing as help. There are many programs that will help young mothers provide for their children. Children should not be pushed away because of the lack of research and the case of being too arrogant to ask for help. Some teen moms have to deal with the spouse not being present during or after the pregnancy, which may make it harder on the girl. Nevertheless, there are some cases where the girl becomes pregnant by her partner, and he’s there through it all. I have to say that’s a blessing when it does …show more content…
These advantages involve love, care, and help. Although, teen pregnancy is not something to brag about, it isn’t the end of the world either. After accepting the fact that a little bundle of joy is going to be added to the family, exciting things start to happen! Once the developing fetus starts to grow, the baby will start to kick and move. Being able to experience this feeling is one of the best advantages during pregnancy. After the family of the pregnant teen accepts the fact that their daughter is pregnant it brings most families closer together. A new addition to the family could change a lot. Another advantage of teen pregnancy is the bondage of the mother and baby. The teenager will have a lot of maturing to do and when her child is born and starts to grow, they can grow together. A child is a gift from God and when a mother doesn’t have anyone else to love them, she’ll know for a fact that her child does. Likewise, becoming pregnant and having a child makes a person grow up faster than any other regular teenager. They won’t be able to go out with friends like they may have done in the past. And so forth their life will revolve around their child. Furthermore, having a child and being home taking care of said child will keep the mother out of trouble that she may have gotten into before becoming pregnant and

They are more likely to come in contact with the child welfare and criminal justice systems, live in poverty, drop out of high school and become teen parents themselves. In addition, pregnant teens, particularly younger ones, may be more susceptible to negative health factors and be affected by pregnancy related complications…

Until late 1800’s, main concern about pregnant teen was to be married before baby was born and most of states codes allowed girls as young as 12 to do so (Teen Pregnancy, 2008).
