Teen Nutrition Abstract Poster Analysis

When I was a sophomore I applied for an internship with the City Of Duarte. After two weeks I got a call back saying I was chosen for the Teen Nutrition Council. The Teen Nutrition Council is a program run by the City of Duarte in partnership with the City of Hope. The program coordinator is Frank Valenzuela, a worker from the Teen Center. To become part of Teen Nutrition I had to have good grades and a good GPA. Our main goal of Teen Nutrition is to be health advocates for teenagers and children. One of the main assignments we had to do was an abstract poster. The abstract poster was based on a summer health camp. The camp was two weeks and had a total of twenty-five kids each week. The abstract poster represents my best learning …show more content…
I had to incorporate creativity so I could create an informed presentation. The abstract I was in charge of presenting was on a summer health camp that I worked during the first two weeks of August. My work reflects that I am an analytical thinker because I had to draw conclusions from previous data. By drawing conclusions, I had the required data to create the abstract. In order to complete this assignment, I had to evaluate the tests we had the children take during the weeks. I was also required to analyze the data to see if there were any changes in the child’s eating habits. It was frustrating getting the children to take the tests. They were very curious and wanted to know every detail on why they were required to take the healthy eating habits test. In addition, some of the children were copying off other because they didn’t know what to put. I alongside my council members had to take charge and make sure they didn’t copy each other. This artifact is meaningful to me because it has helped me with other assignments. Assignments such as school projects and presentations. I attained the skills needed to become a good presenter. This abstract also helped me in my social and personal life. I have built a connection with individuals that can help me in my future careers. I plan to apply what I learned from this experience into my college career. This artifact is relevant to my future because

MPH Competencies In the beginning I visualized opportunities for the YMCA such as: introducing new communication and education avenues such as Pinterest, taking a public health systems approach with Missouri State University to encourage use of Activetrax and the importance of nutrition, find realistic opportunities for the YMCA to enrich the nutrition education part of Activetrax with basic statistical methods, apply research principals to class count data, and develop public health interventions to evaluate Activetrax. Over the semester we had focused on the language and literacy development of young children and this was one of the many projects that we had to do.…

While this is important, the learning needs to start at school. Students spend a large majority of their day in school, with that, having healthy meals during this time is imperative to the children’s learning process. In addition, not every family is capable to provide their children with a bagged lunch every day. Therefore, the student could be getting their main source of food through the free and reduced lunches. Even with a healthy home, young kids need a guiding hand at school to help them to continue to make healthy choices during the school day.…

Over the course of the semester of the new year as a sophomore, I have faced new situations that have changed me as a global citizen. I have grown in both the ability to communicate ideas and in my college readiness. I achieved this growth through my new classes and desire to reach a new level. This year I communicated my ideas by having to prepare for giving a presentation and then presenting and in front of an audience and for a grade. The overall process towards making my presentation was grueling and the pressure that came with it added on to the difficulty of the assignment, not to mention that before the project, art seemed uninteresting to me.…

In today’s society, teens turn to greasy, unhealthy food instead of nutritional food that their bodies need in order for them to be healthy. In the article, “How to Turn Typical Meals Into a Healthy Teen Diet,” written by Stacy Lu, one of the main focuses is how unhealthy teens are eating. Lu uses Teresa Beach, a registered dietitian, as a source in explaining the ways in which teens diets are unhealthy, and then also goes on to explain the steps to take in order to improve teens diets and strengthen the nutritional value of each meal. One of the first big ideas in the article is Teresa Breach’s ideas about nutritional density, which is the amount of calories vs. the amount of nutrition a person is getting. She states that the meals teens are choosing are not the best choices based on…
