Hello and welcome to Teen FM, a weekly radio program hosted once a week to provide you with everything you need to fix your relationship. All of our radio episodes are available to download as a podcast on Spotify. I am your host, Isabella Moore, a teen relationship expert who responds to your calls and emails. Today we have Sam, a 13 year old boy in need of some urgent help.

Sam just started dating the ‘coolest’ girl in his grade and all of his friends are super jealous. However, she keeps asking him to skip school. He likes his girlfriend and ice cream but he is afraid of getting into trouble with his parents and school. Peer pressure affects lots of kids, according to a publication on peer pressure by Parent Further, only 10 percent of teenagers surveyed said that they had not been influenced by peer pressure. Sam’s relationship in this scenario is ineffective and unhealthy due to the following criteria. A key factor in any relationship is communication and this is ineffective due to the lack of it, which if it was used, would allow for ideas to be spread clearly and for both people in the relationship to understand what each other wants. Learning how to effectively communicate with your partner will strengthen the trust, honesty and respect. Secondly, honesty, Sam is not telling his girlfriend how he feels about what she is doing. In a healthy relationship both partners can communicate wants, needs, feelings, and emotional issues. Lastly, respect, Sam’s girlfriend needs to respect Sam’s decision and Sam needs to think carefully about what he wants to do and what his girlfriend wants to do.
