Teen Drivers Research Paper

In society today, it is nearly impossible to do anything without the ability to drive. Most Americans have to be able to drive to work, school, or the store. To get your license at age sixteen you must be able to pass a series of multiple test. Teen drivers are shown to be the most unsafe drivers, due to the unsafety of the teen drivers precautions have been made. The statistics show a shocking result involving teen drivers. In the article Institute for Highway Safety states “crashes are a leading cause of death among American teens.” Many teens die around the ages of sixteen through eighteen due to a motor vehicle accident. Due to teens being so new at driving it makes up a large percent of it. In the article is also states “sixteen- and seventeen- year-olds represent only two percent of all drivers in the United States” Most sixteen and seventeen year olds are involved in 11 percent of all motor vehicle accidents. One of the many things that will keep records of poor safety driving by teens is the Graduated License. The Graduated License is a three stage process. In the article it says “The first stage, which may last six months, the new driver can only drive with a licensed driver in the car” they must have enough logged hours before they can move onto the second stage which is driving alone, but with restrictions made they can only have a certain number of people allowed and limit on late-night driving. Graduated License has very much reduced the number of accidents. Other stuff to limit teen driving accidents are, wearing a seat belt, keeping good grades in school, limit nighttime driving, and lastly don’t mix alcohol or drugs with driving. All of those precautions have been taken and have been useful for many teen drivers
