The overall consensus of all three sources seems to be that due to activities teens are partake in, the obsession and reliance of people these days with material things, and new technology that is able to better diagnose depression, have all led to recent spikes in the number of teens being diagnosed with depression. They found that teens that only play sports are less likely to be depressed that those who play sports and partake in the arts, or just the arts. This is most likely due to the fact that the arts is more of a solo activity, and therefore there is less social interaction. Also, those who participate in the arts are usually more introverted and are more in tune with the world around them and themselves, which are some symptoms of depression and can help foster depression further. The purpose of this journal was to give detail on the new Reynolds Adolescent Depression Scale (RADS-2), which is a new invention that makes it easier and quicker for doctors to diagnose depression more accurately in teens and young adults. The journal goes in to detail about how it works and why it is important.
