Teddy Randolf was born on October 7, 1963. He went into the military at the young age of 18 and served for 4 years working on several ship out in the Atlantic ocean. He worked long, restless hours each day in the hot boiling room. Working those long hours made him unaware of what time it was or even what day it was. Though as the days went by they traveled around the world on their own isolated world. Though being at sea was difficult for long periods of time he still tried to contact family by writing simple letters or calling his family around 2-3 in the morning every now and then. He stated how he was scared to go into war since he could no longer see his loved ones or family. Though the rough sea’s of the Atlantic rattled his mind he found …show more content…
At boot camp they had to trained long hours each day. One of the training activities that they had to participate in was having their hands tied behind their back and being thrown underwater. That difficult task was not the only thing they had to do. The group ran miles, marching, and did many more difficult tasks together to unify the navy as a team. He revealed “They were like my brothers we ate together, slept together, and trained together.” He recalls one treasurable memory with his “brothers” where they were all laughing together and having a good time showing growing closer together as a family. He also exclaims how much he loved traveling to different places around the world and when he was able to take breaks he liked hanging with his friends in the ports. Though with the pleasant memories there must be bad ones also. Teddy mentioned a story how a helicopter went out of control with 2 men in it. It came crashing down to the earth and they died. Randolph stated “One of the men had an 18 month old daughter, neither of them came home to their families that day.” That day they proceeded to pick up every piece of the helicopter. Although Randolph wasn't in that dangerous of an accident he did have a close encounter with fire down in the boiling room of the ship.
