A love poem for lonely prime numbers https://www.ted.com/talks/harry_baker_a_love_poem_for_lonely_prime_numbers/transcript?language=en#t-416147 In this Ted Talk the presenter's name is Harry Baker and he has traveled the world due to his love of words. He has won the Poetry Slam World Cup in 2012. He has a maths degree and is currently living in Germany. From being in two 5-star Edinburgh fringe festivals, to his book release in 2014, Harry finds ways to mix and match his words and in his Ted Talk you see just how well him and words work together.
This particular Ted Talk is one of my favorites. Personally, I love the way he speaks through his poems and how he makes them flow.

The first poem is called “59”. The numbers in this sequence represent men and women and the love between a man and a woman. It is the classic theme of the man not getting the girl and then someone comes and blows him away. It is the same thing, just in a sense of numbers. Meaning 59 is in love with 60. Baker states that 59 thinks she is beautiful, while 60 thinks he is odd. There is also a much deeper meaning to the context of the numbers. “While she maintained the strict views imposed on her by her mother, that separate could not be equal.”(Baker) Meaning that this can be expressed as being two different races because like the numbers, they come from two different worlds. 60 wanted to be with another even number and 59 eventually found himself an odd woman of 61. In his presentation, Baker also states, that 61 was like 60, but a little more. Which in the literal sense but also in the way he saw his odd figured lover. She was more than what 60 was to him and 61 was his true love. She understood his oddness because just like him, she was too. “When it came to real love, they were a prime example.”(Baker) They are prime numbers and prime

On October 26, 2015, morning, I listened to a speech presented by Ted Talks on YouTube. The speaker was Simon Sinek, the author of Start of Why. His speech was called “How great Leaders Inspire Action”, the size of the audience was around 40. The concept of his speech was about the action that leaders were inspired by. Sinek used a Ted pad and drew a diagram and explain his idea, which gave him the opportunity to deliver his idea more easily through his speech.…

Chris’s use of rhetoric to perfectly captivate his audience highly influenced me. Before starting to take the idea of self-driving car into reality, all he and his coworkers had was plan in their heads and thoughts to accomplish it. This thought ensured that it didn’t take too long for them to build the prototype version of the self-driving cars. So, this inspires me to think that nothing in this world is impossible. I know that, there are numerous mysteries for us to discover, and to discover them, all of us have to dig in deep.…

Two Narrative Poems that can easily be compared are “The Listeners” and “The Cremation of Sam McGee”. In the Narrative Poem The Listeners, The Traveler, despite his fears and worries about the abandoned house that he made a promise to visit, kept his word instead of being scared away. In the poem The Cremation of Sam McGee the “captain” of Sam McGee’s expedition to mine for gold promises Sam that if he is to die then he will cremate him. Sam McGee being from Tennessee is afraid of the cold adds humor for the reason that he wished to be cremated to avoid an “icy grave”.…

Past and Present Racial Issues Whether it is a drama, poem, or short story, all literature that is written has a main idea, or theme. Sometimes, literature will have a common theme. Two poems with a similar theme about race are “La Migra” by Pat Mora and “Ballad of Birmingham” by Dudley Randall. A short story that focuses on the same theme is the short story “Big Black Good Man” by Richard Wright. These different poems and short stories share a similar theme of race which is a current theme that is happening in our society today.…

What a game changer this speech was! This speech at first was not very interesting and I do not really know why, but I kept listening, watching, and reading the script… I loved it. The author/speaker’s purpose of this Ted Talk called “Jon Ronson: Strange answers to the psychopath test” by Jon Ronson is to inform viewers of one important mental illness, psychopathy, and his personal experience with psychopathy. What Ronson did was tell his own story experience; that is what made this speech so incredibly entertaining and informative to me.…

Literature Paper Poetry can be very complex and even though it can vary and use different techniques to get the point across it may come to the same conclusion and meaning, and can also be interpreted differently. Poetry is meant to be understood in the reader's own way. Why I Hate Raisins, Hand-Me-Down Halloween, and My Brother at 3AM are about the struggles of living in the reservation, but use different style, syntax and tone. Why I Hate Raisins is a poem about the struggles of not having enough food or not being able to afford food other than what they received. It is written in subtly and sounds simple, so the true meaning behind the poem is not really understood until the end, and has a deeper meaning.…

Death is considered part of the life cycle. There are many different ideas and opinions about death. Within the three poems “Thanatopsis” by William Cullen Bryant, “Don’t Fear The Reaper” by Blue Oyster Cult, and “Dust In The Wind” by Kansas, the writers all refer to death. Even though the topics of the poems are similar, they all have different points of view towards death.…

This is because love is deep, crazy and strong, when you throw yourself in it is intense and this is shown by the full stanzas, the single lines are the less intense, calmer parts of love. 'Mean Time ' is similar as it has disjointed sentences so that the reader can relate and the pauses allow time for the reader to think and empathize with the narrator. To aid this, the poem is ambiguous as every one suffers loss no matter what gender and we all feel it deeply. This is also why three tenses are used throughout the poem, to show that loss is eternal and ever effecting.…

I expressed I can relate to the son and father’s relationship, along with some of the emotions expressed in the poem.…

For my TED Talk critique, I watched Mei Lin Neo’s, “The Fascinating Secret Lives of Giant Clams.” In order to hook the audience, Mei Lin Neo starts by sharing some of the many nicknames she is called due to her constant discussion of giant clams. Beginning the talk this way is intriguing because even just speaking of her nicknames you can tell she is truly passionate about her work. Also, that she understands that her passion can lead to her talking non-stop about a topic that others may not find quite as intriguing.…

We do not even know these people are different, just by sight alone. To know they must share their experiences, thoughts, and feeling with us, and those cannot be shared under a microscope on an autopsy table. We are the same, but different on the inside; and some people are treated on the basis of being different. The narrator states “I opened him up he wasn’t the same inside. And when I put him back together I couldn’t get him running again” (Bloch 2).…
