Ted Hughes Dialectical Journal

Hughes' dialect uncovers that he was composing this story as though he were still a kid, clutching the emotions and musings of that time. Amid the season of the occasion, Hughes' felt more befuddled and disappointed in light of the fact that Jesus would not come to him. He was starting to feel anxious that Jesus would not come. "I needed something to transpire, however nothing happened." Towards the end of the story this all progressions to sentiments of blame, disappointment, and misery. "That night… I cried." "I couldn't stand to advise her that I had lied… and that now I didn't accept there was a Jesus any longer, since he didn't come to help

    1. When Ackerman begins by stating that “Love is the great intangible,” she is trying to say that love is the clarity of life. Love in a scenes, is something that has such a strong meaning to us as humans that when it is shown we cannot help but acknowledge its presence. This word however also is a word that we cannot fully understand. In the first paragraph when the author talks about the little girl asking her parent how much they love them, the response of the parent is 100 times the biggest thing we could think of.…

The latest part of the reading has gone by really slow as the past 5 chapters only seem to be in to two different settings during a single night. It seems like Holden is recollecting way more than a real human being would be able to recollect. He is telling us every single possible detail about where he is and what he is experiencing. I have also found it hard to connect to this portion of the book as he his dunk for a good bit of it. The part I was able to connect with the book is Phoebe as she acts similar to my younger brother.…

Within this journal, I will be evaluating the themes in To Kill A Mockingbird. To begin, one of the themes displayed in the novel is the coexistence of the innocent and evil. One way the book conveys this is when the evil jury kills an innocent black man, Tom. I say this figuratively because the prison camp actually killed him, but the jury got him there. The jury knew Tom was innocent but back then, blacks were always guilty no matter the situaton.…

Number One The main idea of the story is basically Holden Caulfield's motivation throughout the story. Holden goes to New York City and spends most of his time looking for something, but he never tells the reader exactly what he is looking for, I don’t even think he knows exactly what it is he is looking for. He seems to be looking for friendship or just genuine communication, but he is looking for it in the wrong place. Nobody else is concerned with friendship or honesty, besides his little sister Phoebe.…

The subjective diction is utilized as a tool to emphasize this fact, in the case of words such as “ashamed”, “buried”, and “couldn’t bear” which all suggest the depth of the feelings that Hughes experienced following the event, and how they contributed to his extreme reaction of doubting religion. Youth is an important idea in the story in other respects as well. It is the vessel by which the disillusionment that results from the misinterpretation of adults by children is communicated, showing that is a contributing factor in the problems that Hughes faces. His issue was that he “kept waiting to see Jesus” and it is this literal interpretation of salvation that causes religion to come into question for him. Religion is something much more metaphorical in nature for adults, but the kids’ minds do not typically head in this direction.…
