The Challenges Of Donald Trump

As many sat at home and watched yet another presidential debate, many of us are either disenfranchised or merely want something different. The debate is supposed to inform me on issues that I should be concerned about, but in our modern society I want to see who has the wittier remarks and who will ultimately make me laugh. We are so disconnected from our leaders that we get nothing from them and thus my attention during the entire debate has been on Donald Trump. How could a person who is narcissistic, lying, racist, and misogynistic ever become a presidential nominee? According to Plato this is because our current election process has failed and the uninformed are now the majority, because our chaotic democracy will ultimately lead to selecting …show more content…
‘For it is pretty fair that it is transformed out of democracy” (Plato Republic, 562a). At the last stages when democracy is at its most chaotic because the cities people have been given too much freedom, they will fall victim to a dictator. Plato blame democracy for this “Then, democracy, would have all this and other things akin to it and would be, as it seems, a sweet regime, without rulers and many-colored, dispensing a certain equality to equals and unequals alike” (Plato Book VIII, 558c). The United States with its vast economic inequality will see a rise of the poor over the rich. In this countries darkest hour where the middle and lower class do not know where to place their values when it comes to our countries government, Donald Trump will rise and be the canny tyrannical politician he so graciously perceives himself to be. “That when a tyrant grows naturally, he sprouts from a root of leadership and from nowhere else” (Plato Book VIII, 565d). He will tell the American people anything they want to hear in order to get their votes and if made president will then go after the rich, who are his strongest enemies by taxing them. Trump is the exact concept that Plato had of a …show more content…
“They don’t know that for the true pilot it is necessary to pay careful attention to the year, seasons, heavens, stars, winds, and everything that’s proper to the art” (Plato Book VI, 488d). What Plato means by this is that although many of the crew on the ship conspire to be captain, they do not have the qualifications to do so. This is the direct opposite in how America selects its political leaders. We allow just about anyone to throw their hat in the race and see how far they are willing to entertain us. We do nothing when the qualifications are not their or the intentions of a nominee are unmoral. Donald Trump neither encompasses any of the virtues that Plato envisioned a leader would have nor does he have the basic knowledge on how to lead, yet we follow like

In a recent presidential debate, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton argued their character, and if they are fit to serve as president of the United States or not. Throughout their debate they depended on both rhetorical fallacies and strategies to build their arguments and prove their capability to run this country. Although the arguments made by the candidates seem to be just repetitive nuances of common issues, this debate gives us an idea of the duties and character traits a president must obtain. From start to finish, the candidates in this debate use rhetorical strategies to make their arguments stand out.…

The frequent recent government “shutdowns” exemplify the weaknesses of the American constitution system. If Plato, Aristotle, Polybius, James Madison and Epicurus sat together over lunch to discuss the recent government “shutdown,” they would disapprove of the selfishness and corruption the “shutdowns” are used for. The majority of these men believed the government should look to further the well-being of the nation, yet the “shutdowns” are a clear example that corruption is not allowing the nation’s agenda to advance. The government “shutdown” demonstrates the flaws in the system because it has become a political ploy to make the party in power (the republican party) appear as if they are standing up to the enemy (the democratic party). The “shutdown” is…

Electoral College: A Flawed System For generations, a man who holds more potential power than anyone else on this imposing earth has been ordained his power by a small group of 538. This system has been continually tarnished and contorted until it arranged itself to the system of today; a warped empty shell of good intentions gone wrong. It is of my opinion that the system we have today is fallacious and must be removed with great haste. Once an idea on a path paved with good intentions, at some point a fork in the road presented itself, on which the wrong lane was taken, leaving the presidential candidates to the mercy of a process gone awry. To most, it is a little known phenomenon that the genuine voters, the hardworking people of mainstream…

Based on Aristotle’s definitions of Oligarchy and Democracy, can America be considered a true democracy? Aristotle points out several forms of government throughout his “Democracy and Oligarchy”. In this work, Aristotle focuses primarily on democracy and oligarchy and makes a strong effort through the use of definitions to distinguish between the many instances these two forms of government are able to exist in and the differences between the them. Using Aristotle’s definitions, let us diagnose America and see if she can rightfully claim democracy, first by explaining what the two types of government consist of and then by picking through a few characteristics of America. “Democracy is the form of government in which the free are rulers”…

Plato and Machiavelli looked into what is best for people and a government structure that can bring to a better society, happiness, and wealth for everyone. Both Plato and Machiavelli focused on a civil society that would work to secure the rule of law and protecting individual’s freedoms, as well as stability as a whole. They agreed that a government or a ruler would have to work for conditions that will bring prosperity of his citizens and a pleasing and satisfactory way of living. These two philosophers were too realistic in emphasizing a political structure of how government should perform to keep its citizens satisfied overall. Plato, for instance, was expecting an ideal government or a “just’’ society that would promote justice for…

The City and the Soul The Republic written by Plato in Socratic dialogue is one of the earliest text concerning the subject of justice and forms of government. In the text, Socrates and other Athenians debate on the true meaning of justice. After establishing the premises, Socrates concludes his arguments by praising aristocracy as the best form of government because it is ruled by rational philosopher kings who are just, and critique other forms of government, especially democracy because the desire nature of the human soul rules the city. Today, both forms of government still exist, but democracy seems to be the ideal form of government in the western civilization. Socrates is wrong with his conclusion that aristocracy exceeds democracy because reason exceeds appetite in an aristocracy.…

Though both philosophers rely on the average man in order to sustain their society, they both view the majority as ignorant masses. As Plato was raised in the purest form of democracy, he quotes, “Democracy...is a charming form of government, full of variety and disorder; and dispensing a sort of equality to equals and unequals alike.” Mocking the instability of a democracy, Plato and Machiavelli both agree to leave the masses out of politics. Evident from past historical contexts, rulers such has Julius Caesar, Pericles, Napoleon, and Adolf Hitler all rose to power from a democracy. Knowing the effects of distributing equal amounts of power to the people, both men view the human nature as erratic and…
