Theodore Robert Cowell was born on the evening of November 24, 1946 in Burlington, Vermont. His mother was Eleanor Louise Cowell and never met or knew his birth father. Bundy’s mother and Ted would eventually move to Tacoma, Washington where his mother met Johnny Culpepper Bundy; Johnny soon after married Ted’s mother and also adopted Ted as his own child, Bundy becomes Ted’s last name. While living in Tacoma and now in his teenage years, Bundy would search trash cans and open cars for pictures of naked women, read violent crime novels and detective magazines for sexual violence and would scout the neighborhood for open windows where he would wait for women to undress. Karen was a dancer and student at the University of Washington. Ted picked up a metal rod that was from Karen Sparks’s bed and bludgeoned her until she was unconscious. While she was unconscious, Bundy sexually assaulted her by shoving a speculum into her anus. Bundy ultimately scattered from the scene and Karen Sparks was found unconscious and rushed to the hospital. Lynda was an undergraduate student who announced the morning radio weather reports for skiers. Bundy again beat Lynda Ann Healy unconscious and started to dress her. He dressed her in blue jeans, a white blouse and boots and carried her off into the night, never to be seen again. March 12, 1974 a 19-year-old student named Donna Gail Manson disappeared. Donna was a student at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington; which is 60 miles southwest from Seattle. She left her dormitory for a jazz concert on campus but never made it. Sullivan (2009, pg.21) states “Donna Manson would vanish either along the pathway or from the parking lot adjacent to the building where the concert was being held.” Reports quickly went out and word spread that Donna Gail Manson was missing but nothing came up. April 17, 1974 Susan Elaine Rancourt was on her way to a movie after an evening advisor meeting at her college, Washington State College in Ellensburg. She disappeared and never made the movie. Again word quickly spread about her disappearance, but nothing was found until two students later came forward to report encounters they had. One was three days before the vanishing and the other the same day as the vanishing.
