How do tectonic plates move and how fast?
Tectonic Plates move about 2 to 5 centimeters, about 1 to 2 inches per year. That’s about the same speed that your fingernails grow. They move because of the intense heat in the Earth’s core that causes molten rock to move. The plates move in a pattern called a convection cell that forms when warm material raises, cools, and eventually falls down again. As the cooled material sinks, it is warmed and rises again.
Why did the Statue of Liberty turn green and how?
When the statue was originally built, it was a dull brown color. It reflected the natural color of its copper plates. Over the next 30 years, however, it turned into the green color we know today. This was caused by a natural weathering process,
