The Multitasking Generation: An Analysis

Society relies on technology to keep us functioning in our daily life. Whether it’s school, work, or social media, making conditions faster and easier. Is it actually helping or debilitating? Since technology has been around, there has been some notable changes in human traits. With technology evolving, the world is also evolving. We 're finding more people consuming their time by interacting through their computers, tablets, and phones. The dynamics between co-workers, family and friend relationships have resorted to emails and text messaging. They are uprooting themselves out of their reality to keep up or hiding behind a screen to dissociate themselves from their daily. By having an endless amount of information at your convenience, a change in physical interaction can develop from the over stimulated individual. The authors from, The Flight From Conversation, Sherry Turkle, and from The Multitasking Generation, Claudia Wallis, can agree that society is dependent on technology, and it 's hindering the individuals from being in the present. "I 've learned that the little devices most of us carry around are so powerful that they change not only what we do, but also who we are" (334). One author believes technology is affecting the individual 's critical thinking skills."That level of multiprocessing and interpersonal connectivity is now so commonplace that it 's easy to forget how quickly it came about" (387-88). The other author believes with the endless amount of incoming stimulating information from their technology, an individual is unable to be in the present."We line in a technological universe in which we are always communicating, and yet we have sacrificed conversation for mere connection"
