Technology is changing various sectors of human living and education is no exception (Mandinach & Cline, 2013). The impact that technology is having can be seen through the existence of educational resources such as online libraries and databases that contain learning resources. Technology has changed education and learning processes from elementary classrooms to lecture halls in colleges and universities worldwide (Mandinach & Cline, 2013). For instance, games are being used to teach children in ways that have never been seen before. Smartphone applications are available on various operating systems such as Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android OS to help children not just have access to entertainment but also learning material

As such, classrooms in the 21st century must have technology tools in some way or another; to be used in learning and teaching. Even so, it is prudent to understand where the vision all began. Among those who first envisioned the potential that technology had in classrooms and education in general was Professor Seymour Papert of MIT (Stahl, Koschmann, & Suthers, 2006). In collaboration with Jean Piaget, they made the initial steps towards introducing children to technology. They came up with a simple programming language known as Logo (Stahl, Koschmann, & Suthers, 2006). It helped children be in control of their learning processes. Some of the components of technology in classrooms in addition to the ones mentioned previously like interactive whiteboards, PCs, and handheld devices are things like online labs and visual presentations (Tyner, 2014). Colleges and universities have discussion boards and learning portals such as Blackboard that have been enhanced by internet adoption in learning worldwide (Tyner, 2014). There are other aspects such as digital field trips, 3D scanners as well as printers. Many components are available with little cost implications to schools and teachers. As such, there is no excuse for not adopting technology in classrooms to improve learning and enhance student engagement in learning
