Technology has evolved a long way from flip phones and black and white television to iPhones and high definition screens. Today, we can see a new relationship forming, a dependent relationship between human and electronics. It seems that most of us would be lost in the world without our trusty phones, computers or tablets. The main reason of this relationship is caused by technological advancement itself. The more new technological inventions are made, the more we as humans are drawn to using it to make our lives more convenient. Through this relationship, we can see that we are slowly losing our humanity and brought out three major problems: physical, psychological and social. Renowned journalist Walden Siew (2010) published a newspaper article on The Gazette stating that, “Today people are so reliant on technology that they suffer from withdrawal effects when do not have access to it.” Dr Alex Lickerman (2010), collaborated by saying that we are already addicted to such technology to the …show more content…
Therefore, we alone are responsible for how much exposure to technology that we are getting every day. Although, there are research studies that provide various contradictory positive and negative effects of humans depending on technology. The matter of fact is this, technology is already a major part of our lives, and there is nothing we can do to fully remove technology due to the fact that it presents such an incredible convenience for humanity. It is an impossible notion to even think of humans stopping the usage of technology; however what we can do is to lessen the usage of it. Storgion summarises that “starting young is the key towards lessening the effects of technology dependency, we should not introduce technology to our children at such a young age to prevent addiction and to also apply certain limits to prevent us from losing our humanness” (p. 683).
