It is the 21st century. Everywhere I turn I can see the world mesmerized by their mobile devices, and other types of technology. How cool is it that I can instant message my boyfriend from Riverside or see how my friend is doing living in San Francisco, thanks to Facebook, Instagram and other types of social media. Is it not amazing that with a push of a button people can have everything at their fingertips? The concept of social interaction through technology is incredible, but ultimately the outcome is not doing any good to the people who have become obsessed with the virtual world. Those who have become addicted to the new social encountering do not realize the damage it is causing outside of the virtual world. Perhaps two of the biggest …show more content…
People now rely on dating apps or other forms of social media to find their perfect match. What many do not realize is that the person one is trying to kindle a relationship may be a phony. In the movie documentary Catfish, the protagonist Nev, engages in a virtual relationship over with a woman he met over a mutual friend on Facebook. Throughout his relationship with his acclaimed girlfriend Megan there is an exchange of explicit messages, photos and lies. When Nev finds an opportunity to finally meet Megan he finds that the girl he is crazy about turns to be a hoax. In reality Megan is actually a 40 year-old married woman who created a fake account to escape her reality as a mother dealing with two handicapped sons. After this shocking realization Nev is left fooled and ashamed to have been tricked into a false relationship. Ultimately, the documentary creates a message for those who engage in a cyber relationship, that these partnerships can be fake. I wondered why so little for such as big restaurant, it was until I looked to see every table had a tablet. On this tablet people were allowed to order food, pay the check and call the server with just a touch of a button. Throughout my entire time at the restaurant, the server made no conversation with me other than instructions on how to work the tablet. The loss of communication within people can also be seen at Chase banks. In my neighborhood there is only 1 window open for a bank teller and 6 machines. From my retrospect, it seems that human communication is no longer going to be needed in the near future. In the article “Technology Taken over?” author Yzzy Gonzalez points out how human interaction is becoming cutoff for simple tasks such as having groceries delivered to a person 's door. She states that “going out into the real world is so much less appealing when you can accomplish everything you need to form the comfort of your own bed with a few keystrokes” (pg.51). Gonzalez is providing a point that people have relied on online interaction instead of face to face so much that for everyday tasks people would rather click buttons on a computer instead of going out to interact with others.
