The article written by Lauren Tarshis describes how people get too worried about the virtual world. It stated, “Connecting online is a great way to stay in touch… however, experts worry that so many kids are so busy connecting online that they might be missing out on genuine friendships.”(Tarshis, 18). Thus, this assists my reasoning since it says that experts are even worried that lots of kids are too busy connecting online to create real friendships. My reason is also elaborated on in Barrie Davenport’s article as well. The article specifically said, “...where the more we interact with the digital world, the more we… lose connections to the real world and real people”(Davenport). This backs up my reasoning because it shows the more people interact with the digital world, the more people lose themselves into it and are less focused on the real world, which is more important. First of all, they say technology allows you to connect with a variety of people in one day. People being able to connect with varieties of people was talked about in Lauren Tarshis article. According to the text, “ ‘In one day, I can connect with 50 different people,’ she says happily. ”(Tashis, 18). While they believe connecting with 50 different people in one day won’t kill friendships, they don’t realize that half of these people could be strangers, and it would be almost impossible to have 50 different conversations that each one would have the person’s undivided attention, so the conversation might not be as engaging and could harm friendships. In addition, the opposing side states connecting with people online is a good way to stay in touch. This was talked about in detail in Lauren Tarshis article. Even though they think connecting online is a great way to stay in touch, they forget that online messaging is a tougher way to communicate since the message said can be interpreted for many ways. This could help ruin a friendship. For instance, if someone sent, “Ur not even good at soccer,” as a joke after their friend had a bad game to try and cheer them up, that friend could get the wrong idea and take it literally, thus it would harm their relationship.
