Technology Outside Reading Project

Decent Essays
I chose to research about technology for my Outside Reading project for multiple reasons. One reason is that technology is the topic that most interests me since there are many possibilities with it and it’s never known what can happen to it. Another reason is because technology is a lot more modern today than they were back then because people rely on them more than they used to. Finally, technology is fun to play with and it’s also very fun to see what is going on about it and what breakthroughs have happened recently. The “Researchers enable patient to use brain to move fingers on prosthetic arm” article was the one I liked the most for several reasons. First, the article stated that amputees with prosthetics will one day have the ability to mirror the movements of real limbs. I liked this because it showed how much technology has evolved and it’s still getting better to the point where amputees can feel like normal people again. Second, the article stated that when patients were told to think about moving a finger, their brain activated and moved the finger on the prosthetic limb. I liked this because it showed how much more the brain is being used for these days with the new technology since things can be moved and activated just by thinking about it. It also made me wonder about what the brain will be able to do in …show more content…
For instance, the article didn’t state anything about being used in any real life experiences, while never saying anything about being a prototype or something similar. It only explained what it can be used for. This makes it uninteresting because it should show that it works or not. Also, it also didn’t say much about what it would be used for. A big piece of the article is about it’s strength, speed, and how it inspired others. While the statistics of this robot cockroach were really good, the title seemed like a

Technology has shaped the world in many ways. People have no more time to just sit down and read a book, or even just sit down and reflect on the world and think about what this planet has become in the past 200,000 years. Ray Bradbury really shows us this in his novel Fahrenheit 451. To start off, Bradbury warns society of the dangers in technology, and how it can take over anyone’s life by using the television.…

Television and other forms of media are important in this day in age to get information out to the masses even if some of it is bias. In the book Fahrenheit 451 Ray Bradbury uses ideas and builds a setting to support the idea that television is important to society even with its flaws. Montag, the main character, lives in a dystopian world where firemen are no longer fighting fires, they are creating them. Montag believes that he understands his world better than anyone but when he meets Clarisse McClellan, he finds out he couldn’t be more wrong. Tv in Montag’s world may be used as a force of evil, but our society is not corrupt and Tvs are used for a force of good.…

What has the world turned into? All I see today are kids on their phones all the time, not socializing at all. The science fiction novel Fahrenheit 451 written by Ray Bradbury isn’t as different as the society of today. There is less socializing because of technology, there are hateful crimes, and love can be a fake thing. Today’s world in many ways is very similar to the world that Ray Bradbury creates in the dystopian novel Fahrenheit 451.…

These popularized articles do have their own unique ways of attracting the readers as many as possible. This technique could be seen especially in uses of headlines of their article through expression or words that sort of a click-bait that would gain audience’s attention. Even though the scientific terms in the scientific article had been changed to easier term and could lead to audience’s misunderstanding regarding the scientific finding, these popularized articles had done a good job in maintaining the actual data and accurate conclusion without making any incorrect assumptions. Other than that, the popularized article also had done a good job in explaining the research findings towards the public, like an example from the article that analyzed, by providing caricature to explain the mechanism of the research findings. As a wrap, the popularized article may have their special way that is different from the scientific article in informing the public about the research findings, however, I think it is a good alternative in providing the latest research news for the…

Futuristic Technology and Prosthetics Technology is the accumulation of methods and techniques used in the construction of goods or the accomplishment of a goal. The article “trial by twitter” written by Ariel Levy really interested me because of the topic it was on. Almost everybody in the twenty-second century is using social media and it plays a big part in most people's everyday life. People use it to share what they are doing or even just to communicate. It is a way for people to connect without there having to be in person interaction. This can sometimes be a good and even sometimes a bad thing.…

Mark Bauerlein, author of The Dumbest Generation, argues in his controversial novel that America's rapidly developing technology and our growing dependence on it is destroying the minds of our youth. He alleges that today’s youth are losing the ability to think, as we slowly rely more and more on the comforts of computerized algorithms to think for ourselves. Despite my own biased view of Bauerleins viewpoints from the perspective as a literate and well-worded 16 year old living in an arguably virtual world, Bauerlein has some merit, but his perception of what intellect is, and isn’t is veiled, and his own biased maturity is questionable. It is an obvious allegation that technology has a great deal of influence on the lives of students.…

Technology in physical education has been around ever since shortly after the first physical education class took place in the fall of 1820; where they started to focus on gymnastics and the hygiene of the human body. Technology has been a part of classrooms for as long as people can remember, whether it be the first calculator in math class or the first light bulb that would soon light up a literature classroom full of students. Physical education department leaders and teachers have taken technology and applied it to work in their classes, thinking in perhaps that this would make things smoother, more fun and essentially easier for everyone involved. Technology can be labeled and taken into context many ways. To narrow your focus down,…
