Technology is rising fast, and with this new fast advancement comes new dangers. One new danger that as risen with the advancement of technology is texting while driving. In March of 2013, World Film Studios produced a powerful commercial against texting while driving. World Film Studios is a movie and television producing company located in Washington D.C. They make movies, documentaries, Youtube videos, and many other types of films. Through the use of ethos, pathos, and logos, World Film Studios produced a commercial persuading people to not text while driving. The commercial starts off with a black screen, and one hears “we are sorry the number you have reached is not in service at this time.” Sirens are heard in the background as …show more content…
The background is black. “I’m on my way” appears in white and fades away after a few seconds. Light is shown only on a person standing close up to the camera with a phone in her hand. Slowly, the camera zooms out as the person gets farther away. “That is the last text my best friend sent to me while he was driving, before the car accident.” Tears in her eyes, the viewer can see the emotion on the girl’s face. Many more people fade in and out with cell phones in their hands. The last text their cousin, friend, boyfriend sent them before dying. The music sets a dreary tone to the commercial. The white words appear and fade out slowly, giving the viewer time to reflect on them. World Film Studios is trying to get an emotional response from all of this. Texting while driving is not a good thing. It brings sorrow to people’s lives. Using real life events, gives the commercial ethos. This could happen to anyone. The purpose of all of this is for the viewer to realize that it could be his/her cousin, friend, boyfriend dying in a car accident due to texting while driving. Going farther, if he/she texts and drives, he/she could be the one to kill someone’s loved one. As the person fades into the black background, the viewer focuses on the sorrowful face. Black and white — the main colors chose symbolize how the situation of texting while driving is simply black and white. It should never occur. There is never an instance where texting and driving is a good habit. “11 teen deaths every day. Nearly 25% of all car accidents.” Eleven teens die because of texting while driving every day. Eleven teens that could be alive today if they or someone else had just put their cell phones away, out of sight. 1.3 million crashes were recorded in 2011 involved cell phones. Again, accidents that could have easily been prevented. There needs not to be any color to this dangerous situation that is rising in numbers. It is black and white. In the commercial, the only light and color displayed is on the people affected by texting and driving. The eyes of the viewer are drawn to the light and forced to look the people in the eyes to see how much it has affected them. It is a real situation affecting real

    A visual distraction is anything that takes your eyes off the road. While driving we are constantly being side tracked by signs and advertisements we see all over the place from the newest restaurants opening, to the $100 billion Powerball billboards on the highway, the last thing you need to be doing is trying to reply to a text while paying attention to all of these catchy signs. Cognitive distractors are anything that takes your mind off the road like engaging in a conversation via text or talking on the phone, or trying to operate your navigating system while en route.
