Wearable Technology

For the past few decades, we have been forced into a society that is evolving with technology. As the years have gone by our society has become more accustomed to doing things through the use of some sort of technological advancement. We can find it in every single aspect of our lives nowadays. All of us at a given time come into some kind of contact with computerized devices, such as our cell phones or laptop. Many of us work with computers or other devices that require some kind of knowledge needed for using technology. Even the elderly have been forced into learning the basics of how to use cell phones or computers because many years ago all these advance technological devices did not exist. This device look like a regular pair of glasses and can be controlled with the voice. It is really easy to get familiarized with this technology, which allows more people to wear it and soon not to even notice that they are using it. This not only saves time for everyone that works in the hospital/clinic, but also allows more time to be spent on the patients care rather than having to search for the patients file through many others with the same name or last name. Likewise, this device is really useful, as Hagstrom states, because it provides the physicians and nurses with important information regarding the patient, such as “allergies, medication regimens, vital signs, and lab results” (Hagstrom). The implementation of new and well-developed technology positively influences facilities that are dedicated to the care of either a small or a big number of patients. Nurses can dedicate more of their time to provide the best possible care, instead of worrying about tons of paper work that not only accumulates space, but also creates a problem every time they need to access a specific file. Especially for patients that require emergency treatments to save their lives, devices like Google Glass represent a big advantage on their favor. According to a study used by Fran Turisco in his article “Improving Nursing Care through Technology”, a high number of patients evaluate their stay at hospitals or clinics according to the treatment they received from the medical personnel. In this sense, if technology can add to the fact that nurses and physicians are able to perform their duties more efficiently; this would also benefit the way patients feel during the recovery time.
