In today’s society technology is skyrocketing at a pace that is almost too hard to keep up with. Technology is essential, as it touches almost every part of our lives, its in our communities, our homes and its even in our cars. Yet most schools have a hard time integrating technology into classroom learning. Many are just beginning to explore the true potential technology offers for teaching and learning. When properly used, technology will help students acquire the essential skills they need to survive in a complex, technology-based life. Technology integration into the classroom setting means much more than teaching basic computer skills and software programs in a separate computer classes. In most instances technology helps students in these key components of learning: active engagement, participation in groups, and frequent interaction and feedback.

Any topic can be taught well in the classroom, but if that same topic can be enhanced with the use of technology it is the teacher’s responsibility to take advantage of the situation. It is also essential that Each student is provided with equal access to technology in the school setting. Even if a teacher has only one computer in the classroom, it can still be used as a tool. The teacher can assign group assignments instead of individual ones so each student can experience the computer equally. A projection device could also be connected to the computer so students can watch the teacher as he/she models proper computer use either through Internet searches, Power Point presentations, or to create and display data in spread sheets. The computer should not be used as a reward station for the students who finish their work early because it will be a form of punishment for those students who who could most likely to benefit from computer
