Technology Integration P-O-W-E-R SWOT Analysis

Technology integration in the classroom is not an easy task. A technology plan must be prepared and a lot of factors must be considered, including budget, income levels, teacher strengths & weaknesses, technology in the classroom, student strengths & weaknesses, students with disabilities, and technology resources. The methodology includes a Needs Assessment Survey, P-O-W-E-R SWOT analysis, interview with a technology specialist, and observation. Teachers will use technology as a classroom management tool and for curriculum development. The district will require that teachers attend at least one continuing education seminar pertaining to technology which will be offered by the district. This seminar will include instruction on using new devices in the classroom and other available resources. A planning team consisting of administrators, principals, teachers, district office representatives, parents, and potential business partners will review the plan already in place, research the district needs, and revise the plan annually to meet the expectations of the plan and KSDE Teacher Leader Standards. The technology budget must be created and approved. The district has ongoing resource needs which include whiteboards, clickers, audio books, scanners, ebooks, and the “cloud”. Students will be engaged using these resources and their knowledge of these resources help students develop skills for the 21st century. Technology will allow for differentiated learning such as video for visual learners, ebooks for word learners, audio books for auditory learners, and interactive assignments for kinesthetic learners. Teachers will use technology, including free resources, as a classroom management tool, curriculum development, assessment, grading, lesson planning, and material generation. Professional development will allow teachers to use technology to engage students in learning as aligned to standards, while meeting technology goals for both teachers and students.
