Technology In The Workplace

Marketplace leaders can maintain cultural relevance without abandoning biblical values by learning to incorporate these values into their leadership efforts. Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy used his smartphone as an example of one of today’s technology tools that can be used to help us be more effective in everyday tasks. Mr. Cathy addressed the importance of staying informed and in touch with technological changes and making the most of what they offer, he even asks himself, “Am I changing as fast as this technology is changing?” (Cathy, 2013) As a leader we have to embrace technological changes, but we should also embrace the things in our life that never will change, like the teachings of Christ (Cathy, 2013). Mr. Cathy also stated the importance of using his pocket Bible as a tool to remain in touch with God’s word. Using the Bible as a tool for reflection, meditation, as well a reference for His teachings help maintain a balance between technology and how God in our lives (Cathy, 2013). Technology allows us access to an immense amount of information, a means to communicate quickly across various platforms, and the potential for danger is always present. Mr. Cathy used the story in the Bible about where Jesus tells us that if a Roman soldier asks us to carry his pack for one mile, that would should also carry it the second mile. We are here to serve and to do God’s work. At times it we may find it difficult to go the extra mile, but in order to help change others we must be willing to make an impression on others. Carrying the Roman soldiers pack beyond the point of his request may have a lasting impression on the soldier and the soldier may learn from our actions (Cathy, 2013).
