The development of new knowledge, policies and programs often result from research. The internet today is worldwide. It has worked its way into every corner of our lives including in our professional practice, and it is here to stay. Technology has intimidated our economic and personal security which has changed the face of communication eternally. Therefore, the social work profession needs to adapt its standards of practice to meet the challenges presented by our world that is changing. This means expanding the way we think about social work ethics which should include social media. Social media requires that social workers reframe how they think about privacy, confidentiality, professional boundaries, and has challenged us to establish new ways to better service our clients.
