Technology In Homer's A Space Odyssey

Many themes have been present over the course of the book; A Space Odyssey, Some themes show that the progression of humanity comes with a great cost, though the theme that stuck out both to me and the other readers was that dependency and the trusting of technology can be very perilous. This theme sticks out the most due to the fact that it is very relatable to the real world as new, more advanced technologies emerge and the other reason being how technology affects the characters in the novel. I personally believe that we are commencing to get too affixed to technology, the average teen says that they can’t live without their phone, or television and with new technology being revealed every day such as the Hoverboard, IO Hawk and much more, …show more content…
It is frightening how much technology is involved on the average human's life. in today’s world we have iPhones, medical robots in Japan and self driving cars which are currently being tested. where is the point of no return? when is this artificial intelligence going to be too advanced to where they can prognosticate us and control us? Many films and shows such as “Back to the Future” and “A Space Odyssey” and countless others which were created more than 30 years ago have predicted that we would have touch screen cellular devices such as the Ipad, Iphone and computer watches. the future in those Movies and TV shows is our present day. we have achieved those dreams back in the early 2000s. it is predicted that in the next 20 years that medical examiners, trash-men, and factory workers are going to be superseded by robots. this process is already occurring as manufacturing companies have realized that having these robots are more cost efficient and are more productive than humans. these robots don’t have to be paid, fed or watched constantly. if this continues to occur then the economic downfall could be catastrophic and would cause many people to be left without a job. what if our military decides to make an artificial army? it is a great conception on paper, but how are we going to be able to control them? if they are able to think on their own and control their actions, this manufactured army could end up turning on us. this very plot occurred in I-robot. they created these robots that would keep tranquility in the cities. these robots eventually turned and became belligerent and killed civilians. this is why technology should never become more intellectual than the human mind. it can lead to dangerous

I remember when the world was a better place. I may only be eleven years old, but the latest breakthrough in technology, the one that doomed mankind, only happened three years ago. That's when Harvard University developed a fully-functional AI robot. It was only so long until they took over jobs, and unemployment became an issue for the human race. The thing is, everyone thinks that they can just find another job, and everything will be normal again.…

He gives us no answers to the types of jobs that will be available, but instead leaves us questioning ourselves and has dreaming of “What should we do?”(309). The author is completely unclear with this category and didn 't back his claim with enough information showing how jobs will be available to those who have been replaced. There is no response at all as to what happens to the people who have lost their jobs to robots and how they will manage…

The Monkey’s Paw and There Will Come Soft Rain, two very amazing short stories with very different meanings but at the same time hold a lot in common. They show us very different aspects of the world and what could happen and what has happened in our lives. The both covered important things alone but together they are stronger. The two themes that I picked were to not take what we already have for granted and That technology isn't as or more important than our planet and our environment.…

Robots: Whom to Blame Death Upon Kurt Gray’s Killer Thinking Machines Keep Our Conscience Clean and P.W. Singer’s Wired For War both have ideas and thoughts that either agree or disagree with robots in our society. Both authors ' views about robots are different but they both agree that robots in our society will help humans. In Wired For War Singer believes that the creations of robots would benefit not only our military, but would also prosper in situations that humans struggle with. In Killer Thinking Machines Keep Our Conscience Clean Gray believes, “if a thinking machine is to blame for someone’s death, then there’s no need to punish the humans who benefit” (Gray 309).…

The idea of robots has been in the mind of humans for more than 4000 years. Since men began to think philosophically, this idea has been discussed. * The first literary use of the word robot was in 1921, nearly one hundred years ago. Up until World War II a robot was a remote concept, but with the invention of the first digital computer, robots were suddenly a possibility. Today robots are a reality, and scientist involved in robot research believe that in the near future robots will be considered highly intelligent, and capable of thought.…

They are in our house streets hospitals and military. They are taking over our jobs because they move faster than humans also you don't have to pay them to work. This is just like the monster in Frankenstein because once victor created the monster he took over his life. Just because we make technology that is better than humans we shouldn't trust it because somethings can go wrong like when the monster realize he could harm Victor because he wouldn't give him a mate or attention. Once robots get out of control you can't stop them like the monster.…

The world of artificial intelligence is advancing at a rapid rate with robots becoming increasingly human like everyday. Advancements in these technologies requires us as humans to understand the benefits and the ramifications of introducing this scarcely understood technology into our everyday lives. Blindly allowing a new form of intelligence could be potentially catastrophic if not fully understood as the stability of these technologies are yet to be understood. Within Isaac Asimov's story “Liar!” he attempts to humanize the robot to distance it from the Frankenstein Complex.…

What is it about mankind that produces the need of robotics and machines to get through our lives. We go through life living through experiences and memories, yet we rely on photographs and social media to remember those exact memories that seem to make us human. Not only that, but we rely on technology to live longer lives, with the use of prosthetics and artificial organs, we as a race can do just that. Mankind is becoming less like a human and more like a machine. Technology is advancing mankind in a way never thought possible, but what defines a human being?…
