One the many scientific advances is biology. The mass production of humans is accomplished with the Bokanovsky process. In Brave New World everything is completely mechanized, eliminating the need for creativity and imagination. Huxley even warns us against mechanization, arguing “the machine dehumanizes men by demanding mechanical efficiency of them” (Huxley 114). The occupations of people consist of repetitive mechanical operations. Leisure activities are dominated by technology. Primary source of entertainment is the feelies. Feelies are a type of movie theater in which all senses are artificially created. Instead of feeling the emotions betrayed on the screen they are absorbing it through stimulating sensations. These prevent them from free thoughts. That threatens society because instead of using their brains to be creative they are trapped from thinking freely. One danger is pharmacology.
In Brave New World an artificial form of happiness is present in the drug called soma. Soma makes a person hallucinate into a dream world, providing them with relief. The way people get soma is by doing good at work. The portions vary from what social class they belong to. Society believes that “one cubic centimetre cures ten gloomy sentiments” (Huxley 53). This makes the societies believe that it is a cure - all remedy. THis can threaten a society because it is a twenty four hour hallucination drug. Similar to biology, technology can be a danger to society if used without regard for the welfare of
