This data is an example how significant technology has become to people on a daily basis. It is now not only a portal of communication but also is used as a way of seclusion. In the excerpt “The Flight From Conversation,” Sherry Turkle elaborated how people in communities and households have learned to be “alone together”(Turkle 84). In the home, it has become normal for the family to socialize by sitting in the living room on their devices: to sit together, but be distracted by social media, texting, or other applications. In the workplace, colleagues are said to be nonexistent, because they separate themselves using technology. There are no social connections, because instead of interacting with peers, people hide behind computer screens, phone calls, and headphones(Turkle 85). Technology gives them the opportunity to reach out and be who they want to be, to the point where they become more comfortable with technology than humanity. On the internet a being is able to portray themselves as who they would prefer to be and edit there identity at the click of a button. It is possible to construct, edit, and recreate a life based on who they want to be. This gives the people who believe they are alone comfort because they can portray themselves as an alternative identity and communicate with an abundant amount of people. They have people who immediately respond to theirs ideas and feeling; there is always people to listen and they will never be alone. Their alterior self becomes more import than reality. Because the technological world becomes more significant, human interaction decreases and the comfort of technology becomes more of a necessity.
