Over the last few decades, technology has progressed exponentially, transforming every aspect of humanity. In general, technology has provided opportunities for advancement in all aspect of life, especially education. Thus, it is worth considering the role of technology in education and how it fosters an effective and efficient learning experience to the cadets at West Point. “To Siri, with Love” by Judith Newman, demonstrates just how effective the role of technology is by describing the development of her son’s social abilities through Siri. Technology provides every type of student with a plethora of opportunities to learn in every way imaginable. For instance, Gus most effectively learns by using Siri. By searching information and talking to her, Gus is able to learn about the various topics he enjoys, use polite language, enunciate his words, pick up social cues, and interact with others. These skills Siri teaches Gus allows him to hold the longest conversation he has ever had with his mother. He is able to learn all of this because Siri is a “nonjudgmental friend and teacher” (Newman 631). Siri fits the niche Gus needs. Newman also mentions in “To Siri, with Love” how other children like Gus are using technology to learn (632).
