Essay On Professional Experience

Throughout this professional experience, I feel I have made several discovers as well as affirmations about who I want to be as a teacher with my own class.

One of the biggest and I think most relevant discovers I have been fortunate to make is, how important technology is in teaching the current and future generation of students. As children are growing into digital natives, it is essential for teachers to retrain and adjust their teaching style in order to meet their learners’ needs. During this professional experience, I have had the privileged of having the ICT coordinator of my school as one of my teachers. Because of this, I have been exposed to so many ways to incorporate technology in my lessons as well as, learn about new software’s and I Pads apps I didn’t even know existed. The knowledge and experience I have gained in regards to ICTS in the classroom is a priceless experience that I will be able to take with me throughout my future practicums and latter teaching career.

Once I had read about this, I was able to connect what I had read to what I have been experiencing during my time at Loreto. My discovery is, how important it is to be placed at a school with a positive teacher culture receptive to Practicum students. Throughout this practicum, I haven’t felt like the teachers have been warm and receptive to the presence of myself and the other practicum student. This has been affirmed in many instances throughout the practicum both with my class teachers and my interaction with other teachers within the school. This discovery for me has reaffirmed the importance of placing prac students at a school with teachers who are open and warm to people trying to learn. I unfortunately don’t feel that this was evident at my school thus, causing a huge negative cloud and emotional strain for myself over the past 7

As teachers we have to equip our students to live in this kind of world. According to Sousa, “…children who spend their early years in front of screens will eventually have adult brains that are hardwired to process information at a frantic pace” (Sousa, 679). Technology has many positive aspects, but often gets a bad rap. According to Wedlock & Growe, “The problem is that technological innovations need to be transformed from tools of obsession into tools of education”…

The article explores a study conducted to see what teachers choose to do to conduct their classes when they have no restrictions and limits, specifically in terms of technology. The study showed that despite the freedom to choose the tool of choice, teachers stuck with power points, which are the most basic “old school” way of teaching a class. Savasci concludes after the study that teachers must increase their “ knowledge and skills about how to use those instructional technologies and help them develop positive attitudes toward information and communication technologies”. This illustrates Cahn and Cahn’s sub-claim that schools and their teachers should branch out to innovative technologies for their students. The intended audience seems to be the generation older than the millennials given the subject and context of the study is very factual, but can definitely be intended for millennials as well because the language used is not difficult relative to other academic studies conducted.…

Technology has become a major source to receive and disseminate information, communicate, and connect with others. The world around us is constantly changing, but for the most part education has remained almost static, and the need to make some changes is evident. Many recent studies are focusing on the need to integrate technology in the classroom to foster 21st century skills and core curriculum. Due to the latest technologies, teachers need to change the way they assess students in order to uphold academic integrity. I want to introduce teachers to using technology for practical purposes while helping students capitalize on their creativity and individual uniqueness. Using technology for some practical purpose, and not for the sake of using technology, must be the clear objective. New technology learners are exposed at an early age. It’s important for teachers not to focus on integrating technology too much instead of focusing on learning in the classroom environment.…

Embrace their knowledge and they will embrace their learning”.…

Students in this generation are known as digital natives because they have grown up with technology within their lives and are able to manipulate it well (Coviello, 2013). Technology is a great additive within every classroom because it can be manipulated to include every student in the classroom as well as the teacher. Technology can be arranged to fit any lesson plan and can also improve engagement because it something that children use on the daily basis within their homes. Being able to manipulate technology in school helps to boost motivation within students who are used to manipulating technology outside of the classroom. The classroom arrangement that best fits this method is one that a future teacher can and will be using within their own classroom.…

Students’ education has changed over the years and the reason for it is technology. For hundreds of years teachers have used books, paper, and pencils to teach their students, but for the last few years technology has become part of everyone’s life in one way or another. Students and teachers are getting their technology through the classroom and it has impacted student learning. Technology has positively impacted student learning because they have more motivation, self-esteem, are completing complex tasks and help others more, while it has the negative impact of poor work and shorter attention span to tasks. One way is that technology has increased students’ motivation to learn and their self-esteem in what they learned.…

Diversity of Learners As I have expressed previously in the two topics above, diversity plays a major role in each classroom today, and is something that each teacher has to face. Diversity can be anything from race, gender, socioeconomic background, or even learning style. By knowing this, it is important that I become aware of the different diversities in each class, and make sure that each is respected. Like the quote that I used previously from the Conceptual Framework Proficiencies, diversity is understood to be a wide range of elements, and the teaching methods that I choose to use need to enhance each of the students learning experience.…

Setting up classroom rules and modeling the type of behavior you expect from your students must be demonstrated from you. Being an effective educator also is developed from being able to inspire and motivate your children to learn. In being an educator, you must never become too complacent in your career because with this world of cutting edge technology there is always room to grow and to enhance your teaching abilities. “Teachers with high perceptions of educational technology self-skills have high perceptions of classroom management skills. This result may be attributed to the experience in the use of educational technology” (Varank & Ilhan, 2013).…

Having the opportunity to work in the classroom through practicum experiences has helped me understand how I can use my gifts and passions to benefit students. While observing during my practicum, I had the opportunity to help individual students particularly. While helping these students one-on-one, or in small groups, I developed a deeper understanding of how I interact with students. For example, as the semester progressed, I could tell the students built a stronger trust in me. This speaks to how I was able to help my students.…

My previous work experience has exposed me to a variety of team dynamics and I would describe my exposure as very positive. My love for connecting with people has been a major factor in my overall employment success, such as, two management roles before reaching my twenty’s and also a fulfilling career in the financial industry for nine years. Working in a customer service role for the last 14 years I have faced struggles with communication, as well as developed positive skills to work effectively with others. One of the most essential elements I have learned from working as a Financial Advisor is how to build trust with people. I firmly believe this is key to any successful relationship, rather an employment relationship or otherwise.…
