Herbert Simon once said, “There are no morals about technology at all. Technology expands our ways of thinking about things, expands our way of doing things. If we’re bad people we use technology for bad purposes and if we’re good people we use technology for good purposes” ("Herbert Simon"). In 1991, Tim Berners-Lee introduced the World Wide Web: an Internet that was not simply a way to send files from one place to another, but was itself a “web” of information that anyone in the world could use (“The Invention”). It not only connects people from around the world, but it has created jobs for some. Without technology, there would not be major things such as automobiles, or minor things like an alarm clock. People use technology for education, healthcare, communication, entertainment, and news. Students now have more access to academic resources, and they are able to do research in short amounts of time. Technology has made many subjects easier to comprehend, such as mathematics. For instance, the creation of the modern day calculator, a device able to solve seemingly impossible math equations. The advancements in the health care are quite remarkable. “The application of technology is becoming increasingly common in an attempt to integrate medical care with aims of improving continuity of care, safety, and overall enhancement of each patient’s experience” (Bubalo et al. 445). Due to the many advancements in health care from technology, more and more lives are being saved than ever. New medicines are helping people heal, and surgeries are able to be done without large incisions being made. “At times these tools help...work faster and more efficiently and bring contacts closer together at speeds never seen before” (Knowles 20). Communication is easier and cheaper with the inventions of Skype, Facetime, and Google Talk. According to an article in Social Times, “5 Ways YouTube Has Changed The World Forever,” YouTube has been creating jobs for people who make video content on the Internet. These videos can range from education to entertainment (O’Neill). Technology has also been a great outlet for the news to reach the public. It keeps journalists competitive and wanting to be the first to break the news on the next big thing. The technology today gives people the ability to learn new things if they use it the correct way.
