Improved Essays
Semiconductor devices have transformed the way that we live by making tasks easier and more efficient than before. By utilizing the opinions of different professionals in the field about their affect on society, I want to investigate the different aspects of semiconductor devices. The question of will the accumulation of both the positive and negative outputs of the semiconductor industry lead to the need of advancing technology that is independent of the semiconductor.

This is important to me because I hope that one day I will be able to aid in advancing technology by working in the semiconductor industry. Because of this, my viewpoint is that yes, they will still propel technology in the future, but modifications will need to be made to

The source that I chose to help me explore this question was the online article “The U.S. Semiconductor Industry: A Key Contributor to U.S. Economic Growth” by Matti Parpala. The article was published by the Semiconductor Industry Association in August 2014. I chose to use this article in my exploration because of how the Semiconductor Industry Association is the representation of the semiconductor industry of the United States. This is way I claim it to be a reliable source. One of the sources that I chose to use in order to research this question is “Is graphene safe?” by David Bradley. This article was published by Materials Today in 2012. I chose this article because I wanted an article that used a substance that may be unconventional to help in the discussion of health related issues. Important information that I have found in the article is the explanation of what graphene really is. David Bradley states that it’s single layers of carbon that’s similar to the hexagonal pattern of graphite [1]. Also important, David Bradley states that the danger starts when this material is inhaled [1]. As described, graphene will be very difficult remove from the lungs if inhaled because they avoid the natural filters that the human body creates [1]. After reading the article, I’m now thinking about the potential health problems that graphene and other semiconductor devices may produce in the future. My perspective is that special semiconductor materials may have to be altered on a chemical level in order to hinder the potential of inflicting harm to those who come in

Jared Diamond’s essay “Accepting or Rejecting innovation” talks about three main factors that cause people to accept or reject innovation. Firstly, the practical applicability of new technology is one reason that affect people to accept or reject new technology. The reason why people of ancient Mexico use wheeled vehicles as a toy instead of a mean of transportation was that they suffered from the shortage of domestic animals to control their wheeled vehicles. Hence, there were no benefits provided for them. Secondly, we might accept new technology when it is considered fashionable and can make the buyer popular..…
