Argumentative Essay On Hook Up

With a world so consumed with technology and the millennial generation who spends hours a day looking at a screen, how do we ever notice people around us? We rarely look up at bus stops, and if we do, there is typically music playing in our ears and our minds are filled with noise. When do we start conversations with people we do not know? Enter: Tinder - an app used mostly among single - some dating - millennials that is known for connecting people in an area. The app has developed a stereotype for becoming a way to “hook-up”. Hooking-up can be defined as any sort of physical contact, often kissing or even intercourse. According to Business Insider, the app has an estimated 50 million users every month (Shontell; 2014) and 83% of those …show more content…
I believe the criticism that is brought about is done wrongfully so. There are many people in the world and with that comes very different intentions behind decisions made. Sure, the idea of meeting someone through a dating app can seem suspicious because we were warned so much as young teenagers about creeps on myspace or facebook. However, we have grown up. The world has changed and developed. There is no reason for us not to use these technological advancements to our advantage. Meeting new people can be difficult, and as a generation that has developed along side technology and social media, there should be no shame in using these devices to engage in social communication. Tinder, in a way, is the equivalent of a “welcome to school” mixer, the only difference is that everything is done through technology. It has mastered social navigation by allowing condensed people in a small area to meet people in the same geographic and age demographic. College students can be very critical of their peers for using Tinder, a criticism that is often hypocritical . Assuming things about a person’s character based on if they have one particular app on their phone, and assuming the app has one purpose often times has very ill foundation. Tinder is not all about getting laid and by the time the generation under us develops, these apps will be a very social norm. There is no need to judge or assume people’s intentions behind using these apps. We should have the same ability to engage in a conversation online through in the same manner we choose to engage in a in a conversation with a stranger at the bus stop with no judgment or assumed

Boys beware is a short film that illustrates how homosexuals prey upon young boys and display them as sexual predators. This video is not effective for the intended contemporary audience because homosexuals are seen in a different sense of light in the new generation. This film gave false accusations about homosexuals, and portraits them as the villains in our society. Our society is filled with straight child predators, and how children are raped but that is not even reflected upon this short film. When reflecting upon the film Boys Beware, it was rhetorically ineffective because the intended contemporary audience is given false information about homosexuals, and how the film is biased towards homosexuality.…

Online dating does not allow you to get the girl or boy in his or her natural element.…

Sexual violence is an utmost concern in our country. Tinder encounters its first difficulty when you look at the distribution of sex in the Downtown area. While it is problematic to assume heteronormativity, there is 4865 more men than there is women, about an eleven percent difference. Knowing this, Tinder’s algorithms can be modified to show mem matches from further away to compensate for the lack of women. Tinder is used most by people between the ages 25-34 which aligns well with the 48% of the Downtown population who are between 20-39, meaning that the demographic that typically uses Tinder is well represented. However as the data is from 2006, unless there has been mass migration, we can expect the average Downtown resident to be about 10 years older than the typical Tinder user.…
