iPads in Education Nowadays we live in a world surrounded by technology. Technology can be found almost in every aspect of our everyday life, even in our classroom. Back in 2010 Steve Jobs (Apple’s CEO) introduced the very first iPad, a combination between a smartphone and a personal computer. What differentiated the iPad from other tablets in the industry was its simple interface and practicality. Shortly after, iPad started to dominate the tablets’ industry; it revolutionized many fields, one of them education. Many institutions around the world saw Apple’s new product’s potentiality, so they decided to employ it in their school. One of them was the Illinois Institute of Technology that decided to provide their new freshman with iPads (Illinois Tech Mediaroom). Many people believe that the usage of iPads in classes could lead to many disadvantages. However, iPads could have many benefits if properly used in education. Education usually is very slow to adopt new technology, because of the many challenges that it may involve (Bacon 2013).

In fact, children using iPads were more engaged in the classroom (even those with short attention spans), because they saw the gadget as an innovation, which helped them focus their attention on it. Additionally, is very unlikely that children could become addicted to technology, because nowadays they live in a world surrounded by it. Nevertheless, another issue could be college students spending their funds on expensive gadgets like iPads, when there are other resources available. However, iPads are less expensive than laptops and they are more practical. Indeed, students could download entire electronic material like books, which are less expensive than hard
