A few of those categories are transportation and energy. Referring to earlier in the paper, the largest industries are automobile and energy related. Transportation allows people to be more productive in there lives by cutting down the time it takes to move from place to place thus cutting back on wasted time. The energy business makes the world go round. It fuels cars, powers lights, gives life, and so much more. However, these two amenities make life much easier and more productive, they can also a have a negative affect. Often when automobiles and energy is brought up, the word most associated with them is money. It can be very expensive to buy a car and pay for electricity, which can cause poor financial decision making and often causes debt. I believe though, that if a person is smart with their money, they can avoid financial problems and use them in a productive way. Another way technology can be very beneficial is for entertainment. Along with that entertainment though, they could bring a major time waster. A common activity for college students is to watch Netflix, but sometimes Netflix consumes massive amounts of time and cause a lack of productivity shown in figure 3. “It can be easy for people to shirk their studies because any movie they want to watch is available to stream within seconds” (Butler). I enjoy having the entertainment side of technology, but there does need to be a balance so that not too much time is wasted on nonproductive

Clive Thompson’s article, Smarter than You Think: How Technology Is Changing Our Minds for the Better, addresses this issue by stating that technology has a positive effect on society. Jenna Wortham’s article, I Had a Nice Time with You Tonight. On the App., presents a similar argument, but takes a different approach, by making her argument more grounded in everyday life. Thompson’s analysis of how technology positively affects humanity can help shed light on Wortham’s observations about present day technology’s positive effects on communication.…
