A large majority of those who were born during the Baby Boomer generation and other skeptics have argued that technology has been a derailing gift almost like a paradox and has enacted people to become brainwashed contributing to devolvement. This idea or theory has become a cliché with those of the older yet wiser generation. This cliché is possible to supported and refuted, because technology has not only made strides in improvement of education, health and society. The world will have a generation of idiots.” This quote has been somewhat slurred. It has created fear and uproar of prejudice. Take for example, Islamophobia within the news it has become ever persistent that there is something wrong with Muslims around the world. Society through technology has created biases where there should be none like in the news. It has allowed fear to spread into society and allowed for heinous actions to be done to others. Carolyn Gregoire explains that due to technology almost being available everywhere constant exposure to news has caused negative psychological effects on people. It explains that due to news outlets beginning to garner news that show the world is ending is causing people to either become depressed or take action into their own hands. Which has left ghastly scars on society today. An example would be the Ferguson Unrest which was caused by news spreading into the area that a white officer had shot an adolescent black male. Arising a conspiracy that the police force is after the black community in the United States. Violence is always there it is the cameras that bring out the hard, unfortunate truth which may just divide not only the United States but the World

Clive Thompson’s article, Smarter than You Think: How Technology Is Changing Our Minds for the Better, addresses this issue by stating that technology has a positive effect on society. Jenna Wortham’s article, I Had a Nice Time with You Tonight. On the App., presents a similar argument, but takes a different approach, by making her argument more grounded in everyday life. After viewing this video, I have now realized the sociological reasoning behind the mass media and all it entails. That the news often attempts to give inequality to those people in need or countries that are smaller than their own often attempt to point out all the flaws to the smaller country yet, would not do anything about it to fix the problem and the solution is a mystery. I believe the mass media blows certain sociological ideas out of proportion with the topics they cover and how they cover them. Understanding sociology helps me see that the mass media is a place for inequality to occur with the higher and lower classes; as well as, seeing the globalization differences that too often are seen as negative.…
