Argumentative Essay: Is Technology Good For Children

Improved Essays
We live in a world where technology is taking over important moments in the lives of children. Technology has become an “important” part of children’s lives. We’re too late, it’s already started happening. Technology has now reached the new generations. Kids who are one year of age are already using phones and tablets. They know how to slide through pictures, get on YouTube, and even take pictures. Technology is good, yes, but is it good for children? I believe that technology should not be presented to children at such a young age, because it ruins their childhood, parental connection, and social skills. As a person …show more content…
As mentioned above parents spend less time with their children. I quote again, “In this literature, one concern relates to frequency of use, as correlational analyses suggest that for every hour children under 2 years of age spend watching TV, they spend about 50 minutes less interacting with their parents and about 20 minutes less in creative play,” (Cristia and Seidl). It clearly states that children spend 50 minutes less with their parents. Parents don’t take the time to be with their children so they send them off with their tablet or they tell them to go play video games. When the child pitches a fit because mom or dad doesn’t give them what they want, they get confused. It causes the parent not to be able to understand what the child is going through. Now because children have that kind of technology they may not even acknowledge that their parent is there. They block the communication system with them. Parents don’t understand their children nor do children understand parents, because technology helps both the parents and the children to forget how to solve issues within the

Technology is such a fast growing phenomena that research within this field is finding it hard to keep up with the ever changing digital world. This is especially true for technology and children in Early Years. Parents in this study believed technology is not able to offer children skills that cannot be obtained through other play activities in the setting. They suggested that children have too much screen time and that by giving children free access to technology use, children would not…

I don’t think technology is bad. Just like with math, you are taught the basics, the fundamentals but there is always a way around to make things easier, i.e. calculators. Children need to be shown how to live life without some of the major technologies first before they use it. Don’t just allow your child to sit inside all day and play video games. Don’t allow your teenager to just send text messages, make…
