Technology in education: Whats to gain? I remember the year before graduating seeing the hundreds of I pads my school bought to be used in the school environment. It took about 3 months for the I pads to be set up to be used in class. After finally being set up it gave students the opportunity to do their essays in class but also led to many distractions. But as technology is slowly spreading across all grade levels does technology help facilitate learning? I bring this up because technology continues to be incorporated into the school system and I wonder what affects it will have on the way students learn now and into the future. The first source I chose was to give me an idea on where the plan of incorporating technology …show more content…
How does technology affect a classroom? Teachers are often busy and with the increase in technology it allows them to have easier access to students and their parents through emails and Skype with the touch of a button, opposed to being forced to set up a meeting and wait till that date. Some of the issues with involving technology is forcing teachers to learn to new this technology through classes provided by the school. I firsthand have seen my teachers comeback from one of these classes without learning a thing and her using this brand new 3000$ smart board as a projector, opposed to the multiple programs it can be used for. Another issue is the time consumed of the teachers to help learn and understand these programs that could be used more effectively such as grading .This allows the teachers to be quicker and more effective. I came across a article called “Effects of Technology on Classrooms and Students” that highlights on the changes of their role from facilitator to teacher. Providing the students with more of a support with giving the students goals and suggestions for the students to use. . Increasing student’s skill in technology would be great allowing for them to learn and grow in it at a early age, this allows the students to be more balanced and help factor in for other …show more content…
The article titled “Is technology producing a decline in critical thinking and analysis?” done by Stuart Wolpert of the UCLA university covered some very interesting points. It began with the rapid decrease of reading for pleasure which is often contributed to increasing ones thinking and imagination, opposed to video games and television. There was a study Greenfield was involved that discovered students who watch the without the news crawl at the bottom of the screen were able to retain more information without the distractions at the bottom, involving the weather, stock market, and breaking news. Opposed to students who watched it with the news crawl who were able to retain significantly less information. This poses as a issue due to the massive amounts of multi tasking is found amongst students today with the multiple screens. As Greenfield said this “prevents people from getting a deeper understanding of information”. This could pose an issue in a classroom due to the internet that would be on the majority of technology provided to students. With the access to the internet it poses many students with distractions such as video games, videos, and music. This would just increase the amount of multi tasking done with students just
