The creators of the app Hooked started to see a change in technology and saw how children were always on their phones. They didn’t children and adolescents to miss out on a good stories. They started the app Hooked to grab teens attention by making short stories from text messages. This app became so popular that, “ Gupta said about 20 million people have installed the app.” (Gupta 1). Prerna Gupta, the creator of the app Hooked, knows that to help not make teen reading decrease is to grab the teens attention with something that is digital form for their digital devices. From the article Can Social Network Boost Literacy Skills, they found a survey from National Literacy saying that, “ 67% percent of surf websites weekly, 55% percent read emails and 46% read blogs.” (The Alberta Teachers’ Association 1). Because of this research, adolescent are doing things that entertain them while they are increasing their literacy rate. Social Media is used by many adolescent and along with social media they are reading text messages and emails. They are spending a lot of time on social media which can be the reason why reading hasn't decrease so much. The Alberta Teachers states in the article Can Social Network Boost Literary Skills, “Perhaps text messaging, social networking sites and blogs are a new form of literature that will soon be studied in schools in the way that books, plays and poetry are now.
