Technology dependency affects all of society because it has such a powerful hold on everyone. Technology has affected human social interaction ever since social media and instant messaging became popular. In the article, Technology Addiction: The Effects On Society the author Harri Marshall states, “Resisting Facebook and texting compares with turning down a martini for an alcoholic” (Marshall). Marshall is saying that our society can not stop, and is addicted to using social media and texting. This results in a diminished capacity to converse face to face with someone. Losing the ability to communicate face to face can be detrimental to our society. To give a clear example, if people can not effectively communicate, they will likely be bypassed for a job by someone whom can. …show more content…
With the increasing use of technology, our society is becoming progressively more distracted. Distractions can have deadly consequences such as car accidents caused by texting and driving, and the texting and walking phenomenon, which is defined as, “Pedestrians glued to their screens walk off curbs into passing traffic or open manholes” (Marshall). These accidents not only affect the person being distracted by the device, but also the people surrounding that person. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “Each day in the United States, over eight people are killed and 1,161 injured in crashes that are reported to involve a distracted driver” (“Distracted
