As time progresses every single day, our knowledge in technology and the digital world has begun to expand and grow drastically. Although this is a huge step forward for future generations, is this truly the correct path to take for the well-being of what is to come? E-waste is everywhere you look nowadays. The computer that you use for work or school will one day become a member of e-waste. That cell phone in your pocket will end up in a landfill while the toxins in it leak into the earth. With the ever growing technology, we are beginning to abuse our privileges of computer usage, resulting in a dramatic decline in both human and environmental health.
If we compare technology from now with technology from 10 years ago we can definitely notice a change, but it this change truly a good change? Studies show that we are spending way too much time on the internet and on our computers, phones, laptops, etc. A typical desktop computer uses about 65 to 250 watts per day when it’s being used when a computer goes on ‘sleep’ mode (after a while and you haven 't used) it uses about 0-6 watts. This is wasting not just electricity, but also the money that you spend on your electricity bills. According to the report, 2012 Canada Digital Future in Focus, it seems that Canadians spent an average of 45.3 hours on the internet in the fourth quarter of 2011.
