Social media are computer-based tools that allow people to create, share information, ideas, and digital media in virtual communities and networks. Social media is defined as "a group of Internet-based applications that build on the ideological and technological foundations of Web 2.0, and that allow the creation and exchange of user-generated content."[1] Social Media sites introduce substantial and pervasive changes to communication between businesses, organizations, communities, and individuals. The overall purpose for use a social media platform is to communicate. If it is used with poor communication, it will soon be ignored. Just like face-to-face communication, if our use of social media is not purposeful or we fail to use it to inspire and motivate others, our leadership through digital media will not be productive. Per Jack Zenger and Joe Folkman, the number one most devaluing quality of ineffective leaders is their failure to motivate subordinates.[5] Ava Pennington says that ministries should be keenly aware of ten social media …show more content…
With it, if people knowledge and understand what’s being translated, they will be more likely promote it and encourage others to view and ingest the content that is being presented. This platform can not only be thought of as a portal to let someone know how you are feels, eating, visiting, thinking, etc. It can help promote Christian creativity, interaction, and learning. Great promotion leads to transformation.
Being careful and thoughtful about what we post leading like Christ, it can transform one to become more like Him through his or her heart, head, hands, and habits. Guess what?! Social media in ministry cannot be ignored.
Agreeing with Grace Robinson, if a church hasn’t touched the social media thing yet and is not active on the internet, find tips and advice on how to use it to make your church truly engaging. Also, talk to leaders and members within the church—a lot of people within the church already know how to use it, so don’t neglect the resources within the walls.
Don’t ignore social media, for church leaders or church as a whole. Social media is a simple, fun, and productive tool that can help a ministry stay relevant, get noticed, and reach out in today’s busy digital world.
