In the technological factors area a firm must be on top of its industries technology changes so they can stay on top of the new ideas, improvements, or new products. Example of the technological factors at Roundy’s is their saving card. This card was introduced in 1997. What the card does is whenever the customer goes into the store and they swipe their card at a kiosk it will show them what is on sale that they normally buy. When the customer finishes shopping and the items are being checked out by the clerk the only thing the customer has to do is hand the clerk the card and they instantly save on their groceries. In the book it breaks down the ecological factors into pollution and ecology. According to the book ecology refers to the relationships among human beings and other living things and the air, soil, and water that support them. With the addition of these new companies into the market the competitiveness of the industry becomes stronger and the survival of some of the smaller grocery stores is in question. With Wal-Mart this corporation is one of the biggest corporations in the United States and is challenging to become one of the biggest corporations in the world. With Wal-Mart moving into the grocery store industry along with Target you will see them start bullying their way around with their lower costs on products that people would normally buy from the grocery stores that they are normally used to going to. The next category in the industry environment is the substitutes. In this industry there are a lot of substitutes in the grocery store industry.
