Suddenly, a truck carrying fuel ignites in front of you. You need to act fast as at any moment it could explode. You cannot reverse because there is a long line of traffic behind you. There is an open field at the side of the road. In the blink of an eye you point your car into the field and floor the accelerator hoping to get as far away from the burning truck as possible. Now, imagine the same situation, but this time you and your family are sitting in a driverless car. The car is setup to obey the road rules and it is only programmed to drive on the road. It cannot go into the field and it cannot go backwards. What will the car do? An article titled, “Should driverless cars be allowed?” also presents a similar issue, but this time the driverless car is forced to make a decision between risking the occupant’s life or the life of a young child playing on the street. Computers can cause chaos if they are unable to make correct decisions, additionally, they can cause unimaginable destruction in the wrong hands. This obsession with liking, tweeting, and sharing has come to an all-time high within the past ten years. Those that use their phones on a daily basis. In fact people who often use the internet tend to download illegal or make pirated television shows, computer games, software and the most common, music. “Source 3: Data Analysis” shows that overall 56.5% approve to pay for any source of entertainment online while 43.5% disapprove. I believe that people should be prosecuted for online piracy, and that it should be illegal to download any pirated copyrighted material. The reason is because online piracy is a common activity amongst Americans. Music, films, shows, software, and games are taken from the internet at no cost. According to a report by the Institute of Prospective Technological Studies, “digital music piracy does not displace legal music purchases in the digital format.” This means that downloading music for free isn’t an alternative for legally buying music. The study shows that most of the music downloaded wouldn’t have been bought if illegal downloading websites weren’t available. Another point brought up is that users who pirate music are also more likely to buy music. Those users that do not buy much music also do not pirate much.
