Technological Advancements Technology advances provide both benefits and detriments to society. Some of these advances can immobilize the community, but some can provide enormous benefits. Technology had made great advances on a global scale, especially within the last half century. Works of fiction and informational texts have addressed the numerous influences of modern innovation.
The story “The Veldt” by Ray Bradbury is about a family that lives in a home where there are many technological advancements. The residents never have to worry about tying shoes, taking bathes, cooking, transportation, or even brushing their teeth. This Happy Life home takes a lot of weight of the shoulders of the residents, such as chores and responsibilities. The adultes of the house will have less parenting to do because the house has it all covered for them. This home can make life a breeze but there is also a downfall of this technological advancement. Many of the residents of this home will forget how to do these easy tasks for themselves, like tying shoes, taking baths, etceteria. Reducing stress can lead to reduced sense of necessity and self worth. When this house decreases parenting, this can lead to kids lacking morals and manners. This can also lead to parents losing authority and the children gaining it. They both cause the owner to do less work, in “The Veldt” the house does all the work for them and also in the article the computer in the car does all the driving for the owner. Since the computers do all the work for people, it’s hard to learn how to be independent. They both reduce stress by taking care of all the responsibilities, such as chores.
